چکیده

Abstract The hydraulic conductivity of rock joints is an important parameter controlling fluid flow in various engineering applications. shearing and normal loading have significant effects on joints, the property which mainly controlled by aperture. Despite importance hydro-mechanical behaviour fundamental micro-scale processes leading to macro-scale observations remain unexplored partly due difficulties with situ measurement aperture its complex relation roughness contact area. Therefore, this study, a series experiments coupling deformability direct shear are performed varying at different stresses. Along measuring stress rate, time-lapse X-ray micro-computed tomography carried out explore evolution joint area during experiments. results show that well correlated mean profiles. Such correlation, however, not apparent for experiment where under high stresses, rate decreases continually indicating damaged asperities hinder flow. trend average mechanical following some cases, follows very closely throughout process. In addition, reveal despite increase stress, it physically possible reach full even artificially well-mated samples 10 MPa. Finally, new correlation proposed relate aperture, roughness. estimates experimental rates both conditions good accuracy.

Behaviour of anisotropic conductive joints under mechanical loading

Anisotropic conductive films (ACFs) received a great deal of attention in recent years for interconnection applications in electronic packaging. This paper reports the behaviour of ACF joints under various mechanical loading, i.e., die shear and cyclic fatigue in shear. The mechanical behaviour of ACF joints that have been exposed to environmental effects, i.e., high moisture and elevated tempe...

Mechanical behaviour of TWIP steel under shear loading

Twinning induced plasticity steels (TWIP) are very good candidate for automotive industry applications because they potentially offer large energy absorption before failure due to their exceptional strain hardening capability and high strength. However, their behaviour is drastically influenced by the loading conditions. In this work, the mechanical behaviour of a TWIP steel sheet sample was in...

Laboratory Study of the Shear Behaviour of Natural Rough Rock Joints Infilled by Different Soils

Natural rock joints infilled with soil materials may show a reduced shear strength, which influences rock mass stability. The aim of this paper is to experimentally investigate the shear behaviour of infilled rock joints, taking into account joint surface characteristics and the properties of the joint and infill materials. A new model for predicting the shear strength of infilled joints is pre...

Shear Strength of Rock Joints Based on Quantified Surface Description

One of the primary objectives of this work is to better understand the frictional behavior of joints under shear loads, including the creation of damage zones. Discontinuities have an important influence on the deformational behavior of rock systems. The choice of a general criterion to determine the shear strength of rough rock joints is a general problem that has been investigated for many ye...
